Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Studio House

A space dedicated to the memory of Mexican art: The Studio House of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo

The Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo House-Studio Museum consists of three studios, a photography studio, and a garage.

This functionalist house, built in 1931 by Juan O'Gorman for the couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, is a watershed for 20th-century Mexican architecture.

Inside this house is each one's studio, which very naturally incorporates the organic Mexican style.

Diego Rivera's architect and friend, O'Gorman, built the two lots for Diego, where the Casa Estudio is now located. Diego painted around 3,000 works here, and Frida also painted many of her most important works, such as The Two Fridas, The Watchful Eye, and The Dead Dimas, among others.

The space incorporates elements of Mexican architecture, such as red and blue colors, a cactus fence, and geometric shapes. Two houses are built on each lot: the red one belonged to Diego and the blue one to Frida. A bridge connects the two spaces.

This place is one of our favorites in Mexico City, as it displays drawings, pre-Hispanic art, books, objects, and photographs that recreate the atmosphere of Diego and Frida's life and work. THE END ♡
