Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Studio House

Casa Studio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo

A space dedicated to the memory of Mexican art: The Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo House Studio

The Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo House Studio Museum consists of three house-studios, a photographic laboratory, and a garage.

This functionalist house, built in 1931 by Juan O'Gorman for the couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, marked a turning point for 20th-century Mexican architecture.

Inside this house, you'll find each artist's studio, which naturally incorporates a very organic Mexican style.

The architect and friend of Diego Rivera, O'Gorman, built two properties for Diego where the House Studio now stands. Here, Diego painted around three thousand works, and Frida also painted many of her most important works, such as The Two Fridas, The Wary Eye, The Deceased Dimas, among others.

Elements of Mexican architecture were incorporated into the space, such as red and blue colors, a cactus fence, and geometric figures. Two houses are built on each property; the red one belonged to Diego and the blue one to Frida, connected by a bridge to link both spaces.

This place is one of our favorites in CDMX, as it exhibits drawings, pre-Hispanic art pieces, books, objects, and photographs that recreate the atmosphere of Diego and Frida's life and work. THE END ♡
