Casa Pedregal by Luis Barragán

También conocida como Casa Prieto-López, esta residencia está ubicada en Jardines del Pedregal. Diseñada por Barragán en 1947, fue una de las primeras propiedades construidas dentro de este ambicioso proyecto.

Luis Barragán didn't just design houses; he created atmospheres using color, light, and space in poetic ways, creating a sense of being in a place that was not only designed for living but for feeling.

Also known as Casa Prieto-López, this residence is located in Jardines del Pedregal. Designed by Barragán in 1947, it was one of the first properties built within Jardines del Pedregal.

The original terrain was covered with volcanic rock, and far from seeing it as an obstacle, Barragán turned it into an opportunity to integrate nature into the design. He achieved a contrast between the texture of the stone and simple geometric forms, allowing the structure to blend with the landscape, as if the house had always been there.

Light is another fundamental element in the contemplation of this house. The way Barragán placed windows, patios, and openings creates a play of light and shadow that changes throughout the day. This constant relationship with nature and the passage of time is felt in every space.

Barragán preserved the existing native plants and worked around the iron-hard rock for which the area is famous. The design includes part of the building embedded in the slope of the terrain. The interconnected living rooms, dining rooms, and breakfast nooks overlook the extensive gardens. The volcanic rock constantly contrasts with the geometric planes of the house. Painted in pale terracotta, the construction highlights the dark stone at every turn.

“In creating a garden, the architect invites the collaboration of the Kingdom of Nature. In a beautiful garden, the wonders of nature and the ingenuity of man harmoniously unite.” – Luis Barragán

If you want to tour Casa Pedregal and experience Luis Barragán's vision more closely, you can do so by scheduling an appointment a few days in advance.

We also recommend visiting the restaurant next to the house, Tetetlan, which occupies what used to be the stables of Casa Pedregal.

Inside, you'll find shelves with books for free consultation; photographs by both renowned and promising authors; paintings, lithographs, and all kinds of graphic art exhibited by contemporary creators, as well as an area for listening to vinyl records:
